According to the Wappingers Central School District, the person associated with Gayhead Elementary School in Hopewell Junction tested positive for COVID on Sunday, Oct. 25, and is currently in isolation.
The school's building and custodial staff to deep clean and disinfect the building on Thursday, Oct. 29.
The district is working with the Dutchess County Department of Community and Behavioral Health and is following all applicable procedures with respect to the health and safety of students and staff, said Acting Superintendent Dr. Dwight Bonk.
The infected person has not been in Gayhead Elementary School since last Friday and will isolate as appropriate, he added.
"If your child had been in contact with this person, you would have been first contacted by school staff and then by the New York State Contact Tracing program with instructions on quarantining and potential testing of COVID-19. If you are/were not contacted, then you will not need to quarantine," Bonk said in a statement.
Teachers will do their best to contact each student via Google Meets or with phone calls as appropriate, Bonk said. Parents are encouraged to check the school website for updates.
A list of testing sites can be found on the Dutchess County Health website here.
"We will continue to work diligently with all local stakeholders, as well as the Department of Health in our continuing efforts to ensure the health and safety of our students and teachers," Bonk said.
